More than ever in the history of opinion, outside the folly that is religious dogma, people are being led astray by misinformation without being provided with the tools of critical thinking. An example is the claim that pot smoking causes schizophrenia, which, in the absence of knowledge of epidemiology or of substance abuse in mental illness, has generated a false alarm.  This phenomenon of deliberate misinformation is also clearly illustrated by the confusion that surrounds the reality of biological evolution.
